Activist ends 26-day hunger strike amid exam reform protests
Activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day hunger strike after securing an assurance from the government that no punitive or retaliatory legal action would be taken against protesting youth. Wangchuk had stated this assurance as a condition for ending his fast. Protests related to the 'Cockroach Janta Party' movement, which began over alleged mishandling of a nationwide medical entrance examination, continued to spread across India. While Wangchuk's fast has concluded, reports indicate that talks between the government and movement leaders have stalled. Security forces were also reportedly moved to clear Jantar Mantar.
