Income Tax Return Filing Deadline Nears, Taxpayers Advised on Verification

The deadline for filing Income Tax Returns (ITR) for the assessment year 2026-27 is July 31. Over 5 crore ITRs have been filed so far, with the Income Tax Department cautioning taxpayers against a last-minute rush. Filing ITRs is mandatory for many, and failure to meet the deadline can result in penalties, including a late fee of up to ₹5,000. Additionally, taxpayers are reminded that filing the return is not sufficient; it must be verified within 30 days of submission to be considered valid, otherwise the return will be invalidated.
