IndiGo MD seeks aviation tax cuts, pilot rule review for cheaper fares
IndiGo Managing Director Rahul Bhatia has called for a reduction in aviation taxes and a review of pilot duty rules, stating these measures are necessary to enable lower airfares and meet 'massive' demand. Bhatia also indicated the airline is seeking to increase its borrowing limit by 57% to fund fleet expansion, with most of the funds earmarked for aircraft financing. He referenced past operational disruptions in December 2025, which led to 2,507 flight cancellations, as a reason for strengthening systems for international expansion. IndiGo, holding a 66.3% domestic market share in June, aims to transform its domestic strength into a global presence by flying Indian travelers to international destinations via Indian hubs.
