Kanwar Yatra sees heightened security, shop closures across states

The annual Kanwar Yatra has commenced across several Indian states, prompting extensive security measures including the deployment of thousands of personnel and checkpoints. In Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, authorities ordered meat shops along the Yatra routes to remain closed until August 12, while liquor stores were permitted to operate. Devotees are thronging temples, with over 4 crore expected to arrive in Haridwar. Separately, the Amarnath Yatra faced disruptions due to bad weather, with the Baltal route suspended, and a batch of 1,605 pilgrims departed Jammu.
