Thousands of migrants enter Spain's Ceuta enclave from Morocco
Thousands of migrants, primarily young men and some families, entered Spain's North African enclave of Ceuta from Morocco by swimming around border barriers and overwhelming security forces. At least nine deaths were reported among those attempting the crossing. Spain's government announced the deployment of the Armed Forces to restore order and security in Ceuta, which declared a state of emergency due to the influx. The Spanish Supreme Court had recently ruled that immediate returns of migrants crossing by sea did not apply to those arriving by sea.
