Floods hit Odisha and Telangana; rescue operations underway
Heavy rains have caused rivers to swell in Odisha and Telangana, leading to flood threats and rescue operations. In Odisha, the Mahanadi river's water level rose after the Hirakud Dam opened 14 gates, affecting an estimated 7 lakh people and causing several breaches. In Telangana, the Godavari river crossed the second warning level at Bhadrachalam, leading to the rescue of 46 labourers stranded on a sand ramp, including 17 pregnant women who were shifted to health centers. Rescue efforts by the NDRF were also reported in marooned villages.
